Do you feel spiritually guided by a Divine Being, guides, or angels? Do you believe you are supported by a Universal Force? Or do you think you are alone, a spirit housed in a physical body that has to go it alone with no help from your Higher Self or God?
I believe we receive spiritual guidance, and we are never alone. I don’t always see, feel, or hear this spiritual guidance. Sometimes I feel deserted and left to figure things out on my own. Yet, deep down inside, I know spiritual guidance is there for me all the time if only I tap into it.
It’s tapping into spiritual guidance that feels like the hard part for most of us. And when we feel unable to do that, we do, indeed, feel alone.
Ask for Spiritual Guidance
Most of us don’t bother to ask for spiritual guidance, at least not regularly. Thus, the first step to receiving spiritual guidance is to ask for it.
Don’t wait for the moment when you are so upset or under so much pressure that you feel you must get help from some source other than yourself. Ask for guidance daily.
I’m just learning to do this. I often say, “Show me what is in my best interest or for my highest good.” Or I ask, “I want to know if doing “____” would be in my best interest. Please, let me feel, see, or hear your guidance.”
Remember, asking for spiritual guidance isn’t the same thing as praying for help. And prayers for help tend to be said in moments of need. You want to ask for—and receive—guidance daily.
Pay Attention
Most of us ask for spiritual guidance—like at times when we feel particularly uncertain about what step to take next, but we don’t pay enough attention to the responses. They may come quickly, but we don’t see, hear, or feel the guidance we receive.
That’s why most of us don’t feel guided. We aren’t paying attention. We aren’t conscious of the messages we receive.
Stay aware of bodily sensations, the thoughts that pop into your head, the people that come into your life, and what you hear being said around you.
Be Specific about the Guidance You Want
Sometimes, I ask for guidance one minute and forget about the request in the next minute. That makes it hard for me to notice.
These days, I’m specific. I ask, “If making this decision will serve my highest good, show me “____.” Then choose a sign—and watch for it.
Pay attention!
I asked a question just like this and stipulated that I wanted to see an owl. I didn’t see one for a week. And then…boom! They were everywhere!
I would suggest putting a deadline on your request, though. Otherwise, weeks could go until you see the sign. By then, you might have taken a different action without the help of spiritual guidance.
Watch for Confirmation
Recently, I made a decision. I had asked for spiritual guidance, and I felt I received it. In fact, I not only asked for a sign, which I received, but I confirmed that the decision (and guidance) using a pendulum.
I then started taking action.
The next thing I knew, I was on a webinar with someone who seemed to be speaking directly to me. Her words confirmed that the decision I’d made was correct.
For an entire week, I seem to see or hear messages that supported my decision—and the spiritual guidance that led to it. And this came without asking.
Don’t Doubt
It’s easy to doubt or question the spiritual guidance you receive. I actually think it’s our natural tendency given that we live in a linear, 3-D world.
But don’t doubt.
Trust those stray thoughts, the gut feeling, the sensation in your body, or any other little nudges you get from the Universe.
The more you trust, the more messages you will receive. And as you take action on guidance, you will find yourself supported in surprising ways. More spiritual guidance will be offered, and you’ll learn to receive it with more faith.
My Unasked Question
Sometimes you won’t realize you are asking a question. You’ll still get an answer that will guide you, though.
Last year, I felt frustrated. I really wanted to see, feel, hear guidance clearly. Many friends receive clear messages in one form or another, and I have to admit I felt jealous. I wanted that, too.
Yet, I continued to believe and to ask for guidance but, part of me wondered if I’d ever receive it. I didn’t lack belief in guidance; I lacked the faith that I would access it like my friends seemed to do so naturally.
In the back of my mind, I wondered, “Will I ever receive clear guidance?” I didn’t voice this question, but it was there…had been there for a long time.
The Answer I Received
I entered the New Year with the determination to receive spiritual guidance and to focus on spiritual growth and spiritual practice. Tapping into guidance was something I felt sure would come from both spiritual growth and spiritual practice.
In the first week of the year, I conducted an interview with a crowdfunding and business expert for the members of my Nonfiction Writers’ University. In answer to one of my questions related to writing and publishing as a business, the expert responded, “You are never alone. You may feel alone, but you are constantly surrounded by angels and guides. You can ask for guidance, and you can receive it.”
There it was…the answer to my unasked question. Confirmation.
We can all receive spiritual guidance—and are receiving it all the time. If you don’t know this as truth, start asking for spiritual guidance. Then pay close attention to what appears in your life. And don’t doubt that what you see, feel, hear, or sense is a message meant for you. Just believe.

Dear Nina, thank you for this article. I found the part about being aware of doubt to be especially helpful for me.
A few days ago I returned home after practicing yoga more intensively for a week with a very experienced and intuitive teacher. The practice must have been working its magic as I unexpectedly found myself releasing some grief upon my return and getting a renewed sense of the direction I need to take in this life. For me it felt both healing as well as quite scary. There were tears, a sense of letting go, a softening of the heart and what felt like a deep message from within. At the time it was happening I would have fleeting moments of “why me” and “don’t make me do it” but this would just bring more release and leave me with a sense that I’m not really in control in all this.
A couple of days have passed and my only concern is that I’ll get swept in up in daily life again possibly losing the connection to what was there at the time or just doubt the experience itself. At the same time I’ll do what I can to honour what I felt and heard and will see what life has in store for me.
So thank you again for your article. If anything comes to mind for you to share with me then I welcome hearing your thoughts.
Best wishes, Warren
Warren,
That sounds like a lovely experience. To hold onto it, make time daily or weekly for inner reflection… I’m sure you meditate, but specifically focus on the message you received and ask for guidance on how to move forward.
